چکیده

The paper presents novel techniques based on the Coloroid color system which hitherto has not been applied to gamut mapping. The introduced methods described are hue preserving and use three gravity centers in a huedependent way. Two of the gravity centers are shifted toward the direction of ‘negative saturation’, and can be used for regions of bright and dark colors, while a third gravity center is used for saturated colors. After a short survey of gamut mapping an introduction to the Coloroid describes concisely its features and formulas. Then a simple color clipping rule is presented applicable to any rendering applications. A gamut mapping method will be defined mapping from a generic input image to an RGB display. Other variations of the method describe RGB-CYMK transformation and also cross-media mapping for known input and output gamut boundaries. The introduced methods apply hue and chroma dependent lightness compression. They can be applied in realistic computer graphics and digital photography as well as in printing technologies. They are straightforward to implement and have low computational costs.

A New Method for Color Gamut Mapping by Genetic Algorithm

To reproduce an image, it is necessary to map out of gamut colors of the image to destination gamut. It is clear that the best color gamut mapping introduces the perceptually closest image to the original one. In this study, a new color gamut mapping is purposed by the aid of Genetic Algorithm (GA). The color difference between the original and mapped images based on S-LAB formula was chosen as...

Gamut Mapping: Evaluation of Chroma Clipping Techniques for Three Destination Gamuts

A psychophysical experiment was carried out to evaluate 5 chroma clipping techniques for gamut mapping. Three different destination gamuts were used in order to determine how the shape of the destination gamut would influence performance of the different mapping techniques. The test images consisted of 7 colored computer-rendered textured spheres and one image which contained all 7 objects. The...

Psychophysical evaluation of gamut mapping techniques using simple rendered images and artificial gamut boundaries

Using a paired comparison paradigm, various gamut mapping algorithms were evaluated using simple rendered images and artificial gamut boundaries. The test images consisted of simple rendered spheres floating in front of a gray background. Using CIELAB as our device-independent color space, cut-off values for lightness and chroma, based on the statistics of the images, were chosen to reduce the ...

Colour Gamut Mapping as a Constrained Variational Problem

We present a novel, computationally efficient, iterative, spatial gamut mapping algorithm. The proposed algorithm offers a compromise between the colorimetrically optimal gamut clipping and the most successful spatial methods. This is achieved by the iterative nature of the method. At iteration level zero, the result is identical to gamut clipping. The more we iterate the more we approach an op...
